Why entrepreneurs have a big appetite for collaboration, while big business finds it less palatable

I write this sitting on a plane having just left Bali en route to Singapore and then back to Johannesburg. I’ve just attended the Entrepreneur Institute Crystal Circle Conference at Vision Villas in Bali under the mentorship and facilitation of Roger Hamilton, creator or Wealth Dynamics and the Millionaire Masterplan.

For the past few days, I found myself in the company of 87 fellow entrepreneurs. Many are coaches who are partnering with Wealth Dynamics and Talent Dynamics and then there are others with virtual businesses for vets, Ayurveda practices, office assistants and more.

The programme is one that relies on connection and collaboration for success. Many of the processes see the entrepreneurs teaming up with buddies and sharing ideas.  This has been my experience:

  • ·      entrepreneurs recognise the power of a shared vision for success
  • ·      entrepreneurs constantly seek out The Next Big Thing in a non-proprietary way because
  • ·      the value of peer review is enormous
  • ·      entrepreneurs embrace the collaborative / shared economy understanding its importance in exponential growth
  • ·      entrepreneurs are not afraid to admit what they don’t know and find partners with the knowledge.

For three days I found myself willingly sharing what I’ve learnt over 25 years of entrepreneurship with equal reciprocation.

Is all big business shying away from the collaborative economy? Of course not! But big business could learn from entrepreneurs where collaboration seems to drive agility in creativity, development and key learning.
